The mindset of "don't do work, go on adventures you loser desk job nobody" is so annoying. When people say "I love to travel" no duh you like to travel everyone likes to travel but not everyone has daddy's credit card at their disposal to go to bolly whenever they want.
Or those instafamous travel guru people who are like ‘follow your dream :) it’ll all work out :)) buy this toothpaste :)))’ and it’s like some of us are too ugly to get followers whitney
I mean its both true and not true. it might be very different in the US because of how big it is (although you could argue visiting an other state as 'travelling', since its as much distance as visiting an other country in Europe), but if you REALLY like travelling you usually find ways, while if you just enjoy travelling as in 'fully paid hollydays' and you can't afford it you dont have the same drive and make excuses (which is ok, to each their own priorities).
OK... I feel like I sound like pompous ass Britney right here. Let me explain in next comment.
I've lived abroad most of my life (THAT is thanks to daddys money for sure, as my parents liked to live abroad too and took us along). But that made me love to travel, so I made sure to go on an Erasmus semester (which costs less than a semester at home, so was actually NOT expensive), then took an internship abroad, then freshly graduated looked for a job abroad, and have gone on trips on extended weekends every 2 month at least.
Meanwhile, one of my friends has travelled through a lot of Europe, backpacking, couchsurfing and autostopping his way there during holidays while gettign his own degree, and is planning a visit to me through the same means of travel.
And on the parallel, I have friends (from school, so same education, similar jobs and salary right now), who haven't left france so far, and somehow never have time / money.
Safe from serious financial issues, its a lot more affordable that people make it seem.
I guess I get that your coming from a whole different background. you kinda grew up with it where I grew up in a house when we could pay the bills sometimes we would have to wait until next payday to go grocery shopping and would have to scrounge up a meal from crackers ketchup and some canned food we had lying around. When you grow up like that the the idea of backpacking/couch surfing and living off of small savings is very unappealing. I have been on a plane once and went to Colorado and it was by far one of the best weekends of my life(I saved up my own money). I would love to travel but in my world it’s more important to make sure my family members are taken care of first. I’ll hopefully go to collage next year (if I can get some good scholarships) and after I would like to join the military so hopefully that gives some travel opportunities.
I think this lifestyle is absolutely viable and livable, HOWEVER, posting about it on Instagram is a great way to squander all your credibility. It's very easy for a family to sell their house, buy a bus and convert it into a mobile home (I should know, my family's done it,) but if they're truly living for the sake of living, they wouldn't brag or lord it over people who have chosen to live life differently.
