I thought he was charged with blasphemy by Jewish (and Roman?) authorities in Judea, which then led to his death. My knowledge of biblical stuff is incredibly shallow though because I'm not a believer, and in any case it's total BS to blame all Jews for what some of them maybe did almost two millennia ago.
Now, to be angry at what the Israeli government is doing right now, that's a different conversation. But again not related to Jewish people in general, just the Israeli government.
You're not wrong. The Pharisees (jewish leaders) of the time pressured the Roman Governor of "Judea" Pontius Pilot. He was tried for treason as he claimed to be "King of the Jews" Jews where occupied by Rome so therefore a enemy of Rome. So basically the Pharisees said we dont like this guy hes committed blasphemy. Hey Rome this guy says hes king crucify him. Rome be like "ok whateves".
While this makes the people doing it feel better about themselves, it doesn't do anything to dissuade Westboro Baptist Church's nonsense. In fact, from what I've seen in interviews, this type of petty nonsense provides them with an antagonist, drawing them closer together.
People pick and choose what parts of their religion they listen to. They see versus that they believe to be about condemning gay people, and they think that gives them the right to hate them, choosing to ignore the vast amount of biblical scripture teaching against that.
