It's the combination of certain food ingredients and heat. No matter what it says on it: don't microwave them, no matter what's inside, and don't put any hot food in it. LIke never. For that there are those bowls made of glass which have the same air/watertight plastic lid. Red-colored stuff like bell peppers and tomatoes will probably dye any plastic it comes in contact with, but the plastic will not deteriorate, that's solely from the heat.
