I am the parent of a "picky eater", who often wants to avoid dinner partially or in total so that they can skip to dessert.
Children cannot responsibly regulate their caloric intake, let alone choose healthy foods over junk foods.
Nice study and all, but the issue is a bit more complicated, and not necessarily the same for every family. I would say that it's not an issue of overeating, but of parents trying to convince their children to eat healthy food.
The problematic bit in relation to what I was saying (overeating habits in the US) is the tendency to force children to eat everything on their plate. I've seen a few other studies (albeit older ones) that found a much higher correlation between the two.
If we're in problem solving mode, we'll make sure parents guide their children towards healthy eating/cooking habits. It then narrows down to impulse/instant gratification issues.
There's a balance to strike, I feel, and it involves teaching one's children healthy habits, and not letting them walk all over you.
its accurate. When something is causing a problem or is the problem itself it is problematic. That's basically the same thing as saying cussing is lazy. Or calling literally any other word lazy. It's pointless and holds no actual meaning.
You've never seen the "I like turtle's" kid?
I'm just disrupting this conversation because it's obviously devolved into something obviously incapable of salvage.
i wasn't directing that derisive statement at you I was directing it at facetious bear boi. I have no problem with you and I quite like that reference myself.
cool, your contributions to any and all conversations/discussions/debates of anything even moderately serious will be considered worthless and ignored. Please get help for your inadequacy problems.
Tbh I have nothing to add to this conversation other than I'm kind of disappointed there's a secret club of turtles I was never invited to.

Do they hold meetings in the sewers?
Actually, no... the turtle club meets in stables and we eat pizza and bet on horses (sometimes people die). Those aren't turtles in NYC, they're tortoises(?plural on that? tortoi? idk).... Oh they also run moonshine filled cucumbers along with the horses.... at one time the gambling even extended to an entire NCAA basketball conference! The "Big East" is legendary in the turtle club.
It's not. Kentucky was basically used by mobsters for horse stables, college basketball, and moonshine for 70 years. It's no wonder it has the rep it has. Sucks.... I was born in KY and am an avid Louisville basketball fan and absolutely agree with Rick Pitino's philosophy of full-court press, hinge screens around the FT line, and letting it fly from beyond the arc. He coached both the University Louisville and the University of Kentucky. He also owns horses.
side note: The Duke vs UK game when Pitino was coaching UK, coach K for Duke and Laettner going 10-10 FG and 10-10 FT is, without even a clear runner up, the greatest basketball game that has ever been played. I didn't even mention Grant Hill or "The Shot". Googling just "the shot" doesn't sum up that game... that game, from beginning to end, was a series of perfect chess moves on both sides.
If you actually are interested on that whole story... there are... two, three? ESPN 30 for 30's on it? "I HATE CHRISTIAN LAETTNER" is the title of one, there's one about the Big East in it's heyday that touches on it due to Pitino going to UoL... and then I'm pretty sure there is one specifically just on that one game. (A lot of people hated Christian Laetter, that 30 for 30 is way more expansive than just that one game).
Everytime I see something like this now I just hear Danny Bhoy going: "Oh you're starvin are ya? Well guess what, there's kids in Scotland chewin' on haggis that would LOVE to be as hungry as you!"

Sometimes I wonder if I should even stay on FS. It often seems to bring out the worst in me.
