Let’s believe in humanity for a minute and say both are current. So, he’s paid for both and he gets both spots that’s much better than paying for one and robbing someone else of the other

Actually, yes - throwing money at something sometimes does indeed give you permission to appear to be a douchebag. I thought that was axiomatic.
