Percentage isn't even that hard.
Take this example, the $30.53
Now, take 1% by dividing by 100, which is just moving the decimal left two spaces, which is $0.3053 or 30.53c
Times that by whatever percent (20 for example)
30.53c x 20 = 610.6c, which is $6.10. This can be done on your phone calculator.
.
Easy Peasy Percentages!!! Literally a 2-step process!
Quick easy way to get 20%
$30.53÷10= 3.053 (move the . Once to the left)
3.053 = 10%
+3.053 = +10%
6.106 = 20%
Round up to 6.11 or stay at 6.10. Gets your 20%.
With no calculator, 16% is still pretty easy if you think of it as 10% + 5% + 1%.
,
5% is just half of 10%; and 1% is just another decimal shift from 10%.
,
So it's 3.05 + 1.53 + 0.31. I just round everything at the beginning and come up with $4.80 in a couple seconds. If you practice it a handful of times, you'll get it forever.
They were using a tricky method to decept customers while not getting any lawsuits when discovered.
That 20% in the bills meant the amount of tips which when a customer has made, will become 20% of the total amount.
Say, if you pay 7.59, the total will become 38.12, and that 7.59 is exactly 20% of 38.12.
It is some kind of smartness but not a wise thing to do, like pop-up ads. Well anyway...
Are you Gen Z?
Edit: wait, why am I getting down voted? I was just curious. I wasn't "making a statement" or insinuating that Gen Z are bad tippers or anything.
Agree with mimx in a way everyone should take care of his own tax. I believe it should be clear for all gens.
If anyone tip on post-tax amount, congratulations though, because he is prosperous enough in determination on tax duties. Nonetheless, it does not make sense to label anyone any genz for tipping on pre-tax.
I honestly wasn't. I'm a server and I am just genuinely curious about the tipping habits of younger people. I'm an old fart. Because of the restaurant where I work, I serve mostly older people. As in elderly people. (Where I work is at the center of 5 retirement communities.)
That was weird for my downvote as well, haha. I wonder if I get downvoted because of my idea about “everyone should be taking care of its own taxes”? Or because tipping on pre-tax amounts is offending someone who are either getting used to be tipping post-tax? Or because it is offending someone who is on the receiver side?
Also, I am sure if I am asking anyone out of vague “are you white/black/asian” without any explanation, everyone would think I am a racist. No matter how many sentences I explain it later. Hope it helps with your choices of word next time. And I sincerely wish you won’t need to name yourself “old fart” to defend against yourself in the future because naming yourself such does not sound nice to elderly people as well. (Consider if I say “I am Chinese please forgive me”, I am pulling down standards of other Chinese as well)
Wow, I never check this account but this just popped up on my random feed again and I saw my conversation with this guest. This guy is trying so hard to convince me that he's not gen z it's hilarious. "No, I promise we are the best generation!" And don't fucking tell me what I can and cannot call myself, GUEST. Calling myself an "old fart" is a term of endearment that you clearly aren't familiar with, because you're A CHILD. So fuck off and troll someone else. People like you are the reason this website sucks now. I've been a member since the beginning, and it used to be great. Fuck you and your peers for making everything so goddamn political and "P.C." Grow the fuck up. No one in the real world cares about your gender identity or how many participation trophies you have. Come talk to me once you've supported yourself outside of your family's house for years. Talk to me when you're married. Or when you have kids and a mortgage. Until then, STFU or I'll find your ass and show you.
Also... Could just go total- 30.53 × .20
Or .18
Or whatever percent you want. Whenever yo u start to think of percent as just a different way of writing decimals (remembering 100=1) this gets super easy.
Good God, just give the server the extra dollar or less! Having worked as a server for most of my young adulthood, let me just say that in most states, we only get paid two dollars an hour. Which means our paychecks are a whopping $0. We live off of those extra few cents.
I did the math, too, and I mean, I hear you, but if you can't afford to tip properly, then you can't afford to eat out. That's just the truth, and any server or manager of any age/generation and any restaurant will agree. Managers usually want us to get a lot of tips, because then they get to pay us less, because of taxes. So just remember, if you feel like you're getting screwed by taxes, the servers are the ones who are really getting fucked. I've lived off of $30 every 2 days for a year when I was going to school. (And remember, I had to pay rent and my bills. And eat. On $15 a day.)

Just some more math
