Uhm, it's not like the King James version of the new testament has a significantly different meaning than any other version. John 14:6 means the same in every version, you can only be be with god thru Jesus. That Hans guy is technically right, but factually wrong. The pope didn't say muslims could rise to heaven like christians, but rather used the word "brothers" which sounds nice but is basically meaningless. They may be brothers, but as long as they don't accept Jesus as their saviour, they will go to hell. Well, at least not to heaven.

Do you have any idea what you just wrote?

@metalman ....honeybumblebee isn't entirely wrong. Same derivative, sure.... but nowhere near the same thing. Both combined pagan rituals differently... and then branched out from there when some were attributed towards certain passages and the meaning of them.

I'm pretty sure Christians don't worship the Virgin Mary as much as Catholics do, not to mention I have never heard a Christian perform the Rosemary. Also the religion (any religion really) varies from location to location.

Saying "Catholics are not entirely the same as Christians" is like saying grapefruits are not entirely the same as citrus fruits. There's catholics, protestants and orthodox christians, plus a few smaller branches, and they differ in a lot of minor details, but they all share the main belief that Jesus is god's son and only he can save them.

True. It is only a minor difference but in terms of teachings it is quite different. A grapefruit tastes different from a lime, does it not?

How? Can? You? Not? Get? It? Grapefruit and Lime are subordinate categories with Citrus as the superordinate. Same as catholics and protestants vs. christianity.

You know what the defining factor of christianity is right? The belief that jesus christ is the messiah. It's the facet that separates christianity from the other abrahamic religions. Do Catholics believe jesus is the messiah? Yes. Then they're christian. Are you daft?

I want to see a fight to the death between an army of Grapefruits and an army of Limes. In the immortal words of that awesome Japanese guy... "LET THEM FIGHT!"

Nah, I understand you. It's just that the Catholic Churches I have gone to unfortunately praise the Virgin Mary way more than Jesus himself. But again I think it's how people choose to do so.

This is blatantly untrue - Catholics ask for Mary to intercede for them - they ask for her to pray for them the same way you ask a friend to pray for you when times are tough. They don't pray TO her, and they don't worship her. And they still pray to all three parts of the Holy Trinity - God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit.
