The mantis shrimp is probably what you're thinking of. Here is part of the wikipedia entry for them: "Compared to the three types of photoreceptor cells that humans possess in their eyes, the eyes of a mantis shrimp have between 12 and 16 types of photoreceptors cells. Furthermore, some of these shrimp can tune the sensitivity of their long-wavelength colour vision to adapt to their environment." Wtf

It literally says 'a woman' not women.

She didn't know. Scientists have known there were more colors from looking at other critters and seeing they have vastly superior eyes. You can read the article I linked to earlier for how scientists designed a test that 1) contained colors no one had seen before and 2) got someone who could see them to confirm she could, in fact, see them. (Only women have the genetic potential to be tetrachromatic.)
