She should just move on, and if she wants she can add diversity in the upcoming movies. There’s nothing wrong with a light skinned Hermione. There’s also nothing wrong with drawing and headcanoning Hermione as black. It’s a work of fiction, and we’re allowed to have fun with it.
We need to be clear on something. Rowling did not say Hermione was black. She said that Hermione could BE black and she loves the idea. There’s ALOT of circumstantial evidence that Hermione could be white. However- there is no singular piece of conclusive evidence. The “white” face quote doesn’t need to refer to her skin tone- it can be a figure of speech for fear or other states of emotions Or well being. The “panda” quote also doesn’t have to be taken to literally mean “black and white” as it could easily refer to the ring around ones eye- and “black” eyes are seldom actually black but a dark purple and red- so she can’t literally mean “black and white” like a panda even IF Hermione was alabaster white in complexion. So regardless it’s a turn of phrase. What’s critically important is that NOTHING about the character or her story arcs requires her to be any race. There aren’t any sudden changes to the universe or anything that “doesn’t work” or make sense by Hermione being black...
... She never attended a “white wizards only” gathering. She wasn’t a wizard world writer for Storm Front, she never cast a spell that required her to be white or was part of an all white prophecy where she needed to be an Aryan to open a lock or something. She’s a little girl on a world of magic and secrets where people can change their appearance at will. The creator of the character is on record saying she doesn’t care what race hermoine is- and doesn’t think fans should care either because she didn’t write her books in a way that the race of that character was of any significance. If you want to imagine Hermione as white when you read the books- do it. Rowling said that for the screen- she would bless any actress who was talented and played the part well and race wasn’t an issue to her. It’s up to you if it’s an issue to you. 250 cuts of blade runner later and Deckard has been retconned to and from is he isn’t he a replicant as many times by the movie creators. it’s up to you.
If she didn't clearly mention clearly about Hermione's race, why'd she so loved the idea of her being black? Only black?
Not brown? Not Asian? Not White? Not Aboriginal? Not Massai warrior? Not Mauri??
Because what brought the issue up was that a black actress was cast as Hermione. Not brown, not Asian, not mauri. As for white she already said she loved Emma Watson and thought she was a perfect Hermione. So she has already said she loved a white Hermione. You’re missing the context of the whole thing and like many, fixating on a single out of context idea that is provocative instead of a larger context. Rowling DOESNT CARE WHAT RACE
THE CHARACTER IS. She doesn’t feel that changing the race alters her story at all, and wether or not it alters it for you is a personal thing that you have to account to and reconcile yourself.
Marketing: uuuuuuuuuuh I guess.
Rowling: Zippy zay, the wizard is gay!
Not brown? Not Asian? Not White? Not Aboriginal? Not Massai warrior? Not Mauri??
