There was that whole “iPhone headphone jack drilling” thing, and... well... the list of things is just so long that I would have to simply say: the body of evidence suggests that many people are ignorant of information and or the means to verify sources that they might just. In a lifetime around cars- believe it or not I have seen worse things than people believing something like this.

When you get a (repairable) hole in a tire (tyre, for our pals across the way..) the standard procedure to repair it as correctly as one can without replacing the tire is a “patch plug.” The hole is usually highlighted in grease pen the yellow,) and then you drill it out to a concentric diameter. A tool is used to rough up the edges around the hike on both sides next, to give more surface for the repair to adhere to. Inside the tire a sturdy sealant patch and adhesive are applied and a “plug” made of material like a tire (tyre..) slightly larger than the hike you drilled is pulled through it to seal the hole and help hold the patch side mechanically while the patch anchors the plug. Any excess plug is shipped down and will wear even with use.

The parts about air pressure are somewhat true at least. Ambient temp as well as the friction of rolling along supporting the weight of the car heat tires up quite a bit. This heats the air in the tire which then expands increasing tire pressure. Its not as large a concern for most causal drivers but performance or critical applications where a slight variance in pressure matters a lot must set an initial tire pressure to compensate for the expected average operating pressure of the tire. Passenger car tires shouldn’t be filled to the “maximum” pressure as a cold tire filled to that pressure will have a higher pressure when heated. Long drives, high temperatures, aggressive driving or emergency maneuvers and carrying load in the vehicle can all cause increases of anywhere from 2psi-10psi (or rarely more!) so a tire at “maximum” pressure runs a higher risk of bursting which can cause injury or damage- plus the costs.

While this is entirely fake, it is important to change the air in your tires every season, as winter air can damage them in the summer and vice versa.
