I know that there are going to be people that dislike the “pet parent” thing but I will be the first person to say that there is nothin wrong with calling yourself a mom or a dad to a pet. You've adopted this animal like you would adopt a child and brought it into your home and your life, and now you become their world because they don’t have the choice to leave the house and experience so many other things unless you’re there with them. The emotional investment in a pet that loves you unconditionally makes them a part of your family, and I LOATHE people who insist that they “own” an animal (unless it’s a snake or a fish or something, but that’s another argument for another post). I will always be a pet parent, not a pet owner. Because they are my family, not possessions.
For starters, you are more attractive, look much more refreshed and happier, whilst your poor mother looks exhausted, almost as if she was just in labour ;-)
I agree that people who take pets into their lives should 100% be allowed to call themselves "pet parents " and their pet "daughter(or son)" However I don't think people should say it's the same as being the mother to a human child because it is not. Human children require far more extensive care especially in the early years. Having a child is also a (min 18 year) lifetime commitment. Animals simply aren't going to outlive you most of the time. It's not the same.

Maybe parrots are comparable. Not much else, though.
