I think it is perfectly reasonable to think of a case where it would be better to let the fire fighters save the kid.

I know I'm probably on the minority side on this, but she got arrested for self-preservation? If she went back in to save her daughter's life, she could have died as well. Sure, you definitely wouldn't get called '#1 mom' anymore for certain, but should you get arrested and sentenced to two and a half years on probation?
