I think this sums it up beautifully. Yes, there are strong women now too, but there also were strong women in the past. Strength can be shown in so many different ways - hell, it might not even be shown on the outside. And that goes for men, too. A father looking after all his kids while his wife is in the army or fighting for her life in hospital is equally as tough. :)
I think people, particularly when we are young, simply lack a great deal of prospective. I also don't think this lack of perspective is unique to recent generations as it's certainly been the case since the beginning of humanity. It was definitely the case for me in my youth! Honestly, its probably somewhat unavoidable.

*hard eyeroll* Women have been strong back then, nobody denies that. But they were strong with fewer rights and less recognition. Women now are strong by fighting for their rights and recognition. Why pit then and now against each other?
