The toilet seat issue is so dumb. Its hella easy to check your seat and adjust it according to your preference. Then immediately check for toilet paper

This has been hashed an re hashed. Mathematically a toilet seat will need to be down more than up regardless of wether you have a penis. What’s more- men can not only pee standing up, but most are physically capable of not pissing on the seat if it’s down- meaning that it isn’t a courtesy to “put the seat up.” The seat lifts primarily to facilitate cleaning of the toilet bowl and secondarily as a way to have to aim less precisely. In a general sample of most populations women outnumber men as well- further slanting the odds that seat down is the most likely way the seat will need to be.

If we remove shitting, which most people in societies with toilets will do seated, and look only at pee- the consequences are primarily to women either way. If the seat is down and you owe on it- she sits in it. A piss covered seat doesn’t effect a standing man. If the seat is up and she doesn’t notice and sits- she gets a wet butt (hopefully last person flushed) and possibly hurt as well. Lifting the seat to prevent a man from kissing on it so you don’t have to sit in piss isn’t “courtesy” to a man. That’s like saying that it’s my responsibility to put tarps on the walls in case you decide to fling paint everywhere- it’s your responsibility to ensure if you are filming paint you do not get it where it doesn’t go, and take appropriate steps to that goal. Likewise- arguing the opposite doesn’t work. “Well she has the responsibility to make sure the seat is down and she doesn’t sit in water...” well- she should do that. In a perfec t world always would.

But- why do stairs have railings then? Why do cars have antilock brakes? Isn’t it your responsibility to make sure you watch where you step and don’t fall down the stairs? Isn’t it your responsibility to operate your brakes within their operating range? Well- the worlds not perfect and when faced with a situation where we have the choice to make safety the default for if and when something goes wrong- we take that option. So quit making the toilet seat about gender equality. Jeez. Like seriously- so many issues on both sides aren’t about “equality” but about common sense. So many don’t need to be an issue f you just look at the data and see that there is an obvious reason why one way makes more sense than another and it isn’t about making you butt hurt it’s just practical.

Ultimately- if we are taking about a toilet used by a fixed or relatively fixed group of people like a home or an office- it’s whatever works for those people of course. If you have 15 guys and one woman sharing a bathroom it may or may not make sense to put the seat down to you. If a woman is dealing with men she can’t count on to aim she might prefer the seat be left up for safety. It’s not a gender issue as much as it is about what works.
