I'm all about the free market and I'm what you could consider a pretty big proponent of capitalism... but even I'll say these guys should go fuck themselves.
@guest for most goods I would agree, but when talking about healthcare, it gets complicated. You can go without that new iphone or playstation, but you won't last long without a working liver. It has become absolute price-gouging.... simply because for a lot of these drugs, it's life and death with no government negotiations: they set their own prices and that is that. It's a bunch of bullshit.
There's also legitimate monopolies on certain medications that dont have off brands (patent laws), and are sold at market rates that are, in some cases, 30,000.00% higher then the COM.
Obviously there's more to this than what it looks like. That's a ludicrous amount of money that no one would feasibly be able to pay, it doesn't make sense for anyone who actually wants to able to sell the drug.
If the idea is to sell it through certain insurance providers... its feasible on an 80/2] plan. Or if the goal is to make it so expensive that they have to switch to a different brand that's already more expensive, but still cheaper then the now 'older' medicine... this happens all the time if they want to tick up margin and look good to investors on pushing new products.
If you can, try and get some Charlotte's web if you have someone who care for has multiple seizures a day.
