Responding with sarcasm won't solve anything. People are very VERY complicated, and depression doesn't work the same for everyone. Some people get used to depression, and some work their way out. What exactly were you trying to accomplish when you replied that way?
Because I don't think just *trying* to feel happy will help. If feel like depression is something that requires more than just thinking. It needs others to help. Whether it be friends/family, or a therapist, or even medication. I'm not saying that I know everything about depression, but from what I know, it takes more than just happy thoughts. It's hard to think positively.
It might, or it might not. But depression is a mental issue, and like I said it's different for everyone. There isn't any "do this and youre fixed" for depression. Surely being antagonistic to other people offering a possible solution isn't a good idea. If, by chance guest does think that the cure to depression is to just "get out of a victim mentality" then obviously there would be a problem there.
