Excess heat slows the electrons travel. A processor is, in simple terms, a bunch of tiny gates opening really fast that allow electricity to pass in tiled patterns that are make usable data. The slowing and distortion of signals caused by components operating outside intended temperatures can cause freezing as “bad” data is sent and revived confusing or preventing standard operation.

actually i'm pretty sure it's because the heat is being taken away from your monitor and into the electricity parts
