Technically, and I really don't care, but technically the problem is that you're supposed to have both hands on the wheel unless you're changing your turn signal or something.
the road network in victoria (australia) had some big campaign about having both hands on the steering wheel at all times, with no exceptions

As far as I know- no state has a law that says you must have two hands on the wheel. How would you even enforce that with all the other controls a person could be shifting between? It’s HIGHLY recommended. Now- many states have laws that are general that allow police to cite for unsafe behavior or distraction while driving. Some states make it more specific. Many states outright ban eating, drinking, smoking, having an animal on you, etc. any of these could get you a ticket. Other states even have laws that and sort of GPS or screen can’t be within a certain distance of the bottom of the windshield or block any windows.
In the end though- and all those “am I under arrest” type jerk offs should remember this- a cop can pretty much ticket you for anything. They write tickets based on what they THINK happen. Remember- this is America. You aren’t guilty of a crime just because you got the ticket. You can either admit guilt and pay it, or take it to court. A ticket is just a summons to court to defend yourself against a crime you’re accused of. So the cop can write the ticket. You still have to go, you still have to pay any court fees or administrative fees even if the thicket is dismissed. So if the cop wants to grief you or you make them want to- they can still cost you money and time a good deal of the time.
Yeah. You can fight it. You want to spend days of your time going to court to do that? And then hope you have irrefutable evidence the ticket was given in bad faith? You have to prove that you didn’t do what the officer says, AND that the officer lied and knew the ticket was bull. Unless you have footage of them saying they are just being a jerk- and even then in many states you either can’t record and officer or you can’t admit recorded evidence without consent. So you have to PROVE beyond all reasonable doubt (because now you’re making the allegations,) that they wrote a bullshit ticket and knew it.
All the officer has to do is prove they THOUGHT you were doing what the ticket is for. And with little stuff like a bad light or a loud car- how do you PROVE you didn’t have it fixed unless you have external video of the car seconds before the stop or during? And what if you do? The officer just has to say that something about the lighting and angle made it LOOK that way- and even if you flat out bust them- what do you think happens? You still pay all the legal costs. Unless you want to sure the city for your $35 which will take months or years and thousands of dollars more- and likely end against you.
These type of people (not teenagers doing stupid shit) , grown as men baiting cops. I give the cops a pass on the police brutality that this fuckwit deserves .
Yeah, I think the problem here is that he's starting shit with cops at all, leave them to more important shit than trying to trick them into pulling you over
