Evolution is a fact in the sense that it happens and is real. It is a theory that humans went through Evolution.
Evolution is when a species say a bird lives generations eating this one type of food but that food goes extinct. So they look for a different food and find one say a berry that grows on a plant with thorns. But each time they try to eat it they get stuck or poked by the bush. So slowly over time the bird becomes smaller and their beaks become longer to easily reach the berries.
That is Evolution.
And this is coming from a Sunday School teacher.
No I'm not a Sunday school teacher and there's no need to be condescending. I assume the birds you speak of is the study on Darwin's finch of the Galápagos Islands?
Actually I was saying I AM A SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER! WHICH I AM!
Not you.
I am a Southern Baptist Sunday school teacher and have been for around 8 years now. Even says so in my profile.
And I was using birds for an example of evolution because well it's what first came to mind.
But other animals have shown signs of evolution.
And what I was saying is true.

Evolution is actually fact, and you can even see small bits of it compared in even modern humans! For example: some people have a muscle that was used to better preform hunting skills, in the form of a tendon that goes across your wrist
A lot of people though don’t have it, because we’ve evolved to not need it anymore
@mrscollector the way you described evolution is sort of correct. I just wanted to add that we don't "evolve" these new things (like your example with the birds) because we need them, certain species evolve VIA natural selection. So like with your example, the species of birds who can't eat the berries with thorns die off, however, via mutation, some of these birds have different beaks and therefore can eat the berries with thorns and therefore produce more offspring and so on. Evolution occurs over many many many many MANY generations, so is very difficult to observe unless we look back at fossils or do DNA lines to find a common ancestor. Which we can do and provides pretty solid evidence evolution occurs. Technically, everything is a theory, we can never "prove" anything but we can support it to the point where it's pretty much fact. Everything was once a theory, gravity which is now common knowledge was once theory. Pretty neat.
@parisqueen you’re using the term theory colloquially. In science theory is law. Gravity is still a theory, because it is real and based on scientific law and undeniably observable phenomena.
I know it sounds like semantics, but this one of the places where we (as a population) have so much miscommunication. Scientists use the words differently and very specifically.
You will never hear a scientist say “just a theory.” (Unless they are trying to be ironic. )
I'm aware, the word "theory" is used very differently in every field. Actual Research methods, psychology, philosophy, biology etc. All means different things. I didn't think it necessary to focus on my detailed language when I'm just babbling about the concept of evolution but thank you regardless for pointing that out.
The problem here is that scientists use the word “theory” differently that we use the word colloquially. In science, a theory is developed from a set of scientific laws. So, yeah, evolution is a fact. Just like the theory of gravity is a fact.
I'd post multiple links but I'm afraid I can't due to Dave's update to stop bots. Though you are right about those people there are others who believe they don't work.
