To elaborate, since people seem to think this is somehow a trivial matter, declawing has been known to cause:
-lameness
-nerve damage
-back pain (it actually changes the entire way a cat places it's foot)
-foot pain
-arthritis
And myriad other issues, including increased weakness over time
.
And this is all assuming that the cat doesn't develop infection, hemorrhaging, or tissue necrosis.
.
It can also lead to an unnecessary amount of stress and behavioral issues with cats as they lose their first line of defence/warning system. They may become more prone to biting, they may stop using their litter boxes, they tend to be more skittish.
I buy these things from amazon called "claw caps".
They are hollow rubber claws that you use pet friendly glue on and you stick them over your cats claws like little gloves
They dry really fast.
The problem is your cat allowing you to put them on. I've trained my cats to let me mess with their feeties so I dont have an issue as long as I only put 2 or 3 on every 10 minutes
My aunt and uncle had a cat, sweetest cat ever, and I came back recently and found out they had it declawed. I don't think they knew about all the problems it could cause. Anyway, the cat is super mean now and hisses at everyone. Real sad.
Declawing is too extreme
