Out of all flavours, all types of fruits and vegetables, you may even start considering meat since you're running out of options, but licorice? Really? Why would you do that to yourself???
We use licorice pretty frequently here but only in medicine, not candies, we don't eat licorice for fun.
Actual black licorice contains glycyrrhizin. As Rosalinas mentions the licorice root is used as medicine in many cultures. Glycyrrhizin can cause potassium to drop in the body- that can lead to muscle weakness, increased blood pressure, weakness, other minor symptoms, or even heart arrhythmia, or even heart failure. People with compromised or weak systems, existing conditions like heart, muscle, circulatory, or kidney issues are at higher risk. You’d likely have to eat a fair amount of licorice- about 2oz a day for a week to see severe symptoms- but it’s still potentially dangerous to consume large servings at once. Many commercial “licorice” products don’t actually contain licorice root, instead using Anise to create “licorice” flavor. These are about as safe to eat in large quantities as any other sugary candy. If you know the brand of licorice you can check online to see if it has actual licorice or not.
