There is some calamari I had as a kid I think about quite a lot. I've been on a pursuit to top it since then. I have remained unsuccessful. There was a place near the Seattle/Tacoma airport, er across from the hotel I was staying at the night before my flight, that came VERY close... but alas, only managed no 2.
The no 1 calamari from when I was a kid was when I was in Kiawah Island, South Carolina. The restaurant was a re-purposed big red barn.
My fifth birthday cake. It was in Cameroon and I'd always thought I'd go back some day as a grown up, but the bakery burned down. It still have the taste in my mouth.
I always wasn't fond of subway til a friend ordered for me and it tasted amazing, I kept trying out different combos of sauces to find out what they added to make it so delicious. Literal years later I told a friend about this and they went, "Probs was old english cheese." and after ordering and tasting I was the spitting image of the surprised pickachu face.
There was a tiny restaurant in Monroe, Louisiana where I ordered their Muffaletta sandwich. The waiter had to ask me three times what I wanted, until I had to point to the menu. He said, "I didn't even know we made that" and went back into the kitchen. 30 minutes later my sandwich shows up. "Sorry that took so long" he says. "We had to call the owner to figure out how to make this thing."
It was the best damn sandwich I've ever had in my life. An absolute work of art. God bless those people for being willing to call the owner at home.
