The early Christians didn't mess about with who got canonized. "Did good deeds in life? Yeah no thanks, come back when you've been blinded for your faith - it will be so picturesque to paint you holding your eyes on a plate."
I mean, early Christians would build alters out of the bones of their martyred brothers and sisters and then illegally worship and consume the flesh and blood of their God who had been publicly executed by the state, so sounds about right
