In one of the sequels to Anne of Green gables they mention a story about a woman whose son is lost at sea. The woman than buys a head stone and plot as if he is buried. Well turns out the guy shows up fine. So the woman sold the plot but couldn't sell or return the head stone. She refused to waste money so she used it by making it a counter top. When she baked cookies some times the letters from the tombstone would be pressed into the cookie dough. They said everyone refused to eat anything from her kitchen because of it.
