Personally- I think it’s worth it! BUT!!! You don’t have to risk it! The primary risk of salmonella from cookie dough isn’t “raw egg” like many say. It’s flour. Yeah. Believe it or not. If you want to eat cookie dough and cut your risk of food poisoning greatly.... before you make the dough- bake the flour you will use at high heat. If you want to reduce it even further- bond just bake your dough but also use an eggless recipe or an egg substitute that is safe to eat raw. Of course- less than 1/20,000 eggs is believed to be potentially harmful- so your odds of getting poisoned by an egg are pretty low. The flour is the more likely culprit. Follow these steps and safe food handling and you can eat raw cookie dough without most of the danger!

Egg substitute is usually pasteurized which kills salmonella. If you want eggs in your dough but don't want to buy egg substitute, washing yours eggs actually matters. While you are unlikely to get salmonella from eggs anyway, its noteworthy that the most common culprit is actually the outside of the shell, which can be washed to prevent it from cross contaminating your dough.
