Vegan orders and gluten free orders too.
The gluten free thing I know many people know already. Celiac disease is a real problem and any amount of gluten can be very problematic for people who have it.
As for vegan orders. Please remember that poultry allergies aren't uncommon. And allergy to other meats definitely do happen. And its often easier for someone who has meat allergies to ask for vegan than to ask for vegetarian as people are more likely to over look things like chicken broth if someone orders vegetarian food. Especially if they also have a lactose intolerance or egg allergy. I had a friend who was deathy allergic to meat (poultry, red meat, pork, basically all meat. She could eat fish) had a pretty serious egg allergy, and a lactose intolerance and she ordered vegan options because it was easier than trying to specify all her allergies.
literally just give people what they ordered. who gives a shit if they're not allergic to it and they just want the diet. it literally doesn't affect you AT ALL to just give them the diet or the soy or whatever the asked for. that's just taking being an asshole to the next level
That is a big fear of mine, my daughter can not eat spicy food.We explain it to people as she is allergic only because it is easier. Truth is she doesn't have proper lining in her stomach. So if she comes in contact with something that might make a normal person go "my tummy hurts a little I shouldn't of eaten that." She will go full blown projectile vomit and stomach cramps all night. She has to take a medicine that is the opposite of syurp of ipecac. It makes it where she CANT vomit.
So when we tell a restaurant to not add something or replace something with something else on her food they better do it.
How about if your 9yo kid has a risk of going blind from sugary drinks you could just get him water and save the soda for when you are at home in a controlled environment. Principles are great and all but this seems like a good time to toss them aside for the good of the child.
I'm sure you say the exact same thing to every parent that buys their kid anything that's not organic and good for their health? I mean, soda can cause kidney stones and a myriad other issues in perfectly healthy individuals of all ages. And let's not even get started on juice. For that matter, have you SEEN the amount of sugar in peanut butter and white bread? The pesticides used on fruit? The hormones in the fish? It's like these people don't love their children or something.

I'm sorry, but what kind of stance is this?

I have asthma. If I go to a restaurant and ask specifically to be seated in a non-smoking area, and they say "sure," but then secretly put me somewhere where the smoke is vented through, and I have aa asthma attack and I DIE.... That's my bad, because i should have been smart enough to only use my lungs in the comfort of my own home?
The girl with the ulcers should definitely have only ordered black coffee. She knew she was sick, she should only drink coffee at home.
.
For all we know this is a once in a month kind of thing. They go to the movies, they get movie food, they have a special occasion. They have a normal movie experience the best they can despite having a child who is sick.
.
They literally did nothing wrong. They paid money for a service being advertised as available to them. If the theater doesn't want to provide diet soda to people then they shouldn't bloody well advertise it.
How is it the parent's or the girl's fault that some employee isn't providing what they asked for that is akin to poisoning someone she shouldn't have to drink coffee at home only
Because the scenario presented is more dire than an asthma attack, long term obesity, or having to poop. It is immediate blindness or death. It doesn’t have to be a crappy employee. It could be an honest mistake like they mishear The order or someone put the wrong syrup bag on the diet soda line. Kid is still dead. Like the woman who should have ordered black coffee because she should have known better, this hypothetical child’s parents should take a reasonable amount of caution on behalf of the kid. Since it involves DEATH the amount of caution should be insanely high. Bring your own bottle of soda if you have to have the movie experience so badly.
I'm not sure how death via asthma is less dire than death via sugar but okay if you say so? Usually both people seem to be just as dead.
.
Your stance is still "people with illnesses need to stop living to make extra sure they don't literally stop living."
.
People with nut allergies should avoid ever eating at restaurants on the off chance a restaurant - even though it claims to be nut free - may have a peanut slip through? People allergic to bees should just grow trees inside and never go out of doors not dressed in full chain-mail?
People who can't survive being crushed to death by cars should understand this about themselves and never cross the street because even though the sign SAYS "walk," some lunatic may run the red light, or their breaks may fail, and the pedestrian should anticipate this and teleport to every location?
.
If you survive, for the love of god don't go to the hospital because you're allergic to codeine and even though that's in your records, someone might make a mistake and now you're dead. Go home and down a bottle of tylonel and just wait for the bleeding to stop.
.
My point is: there's always a risk someone might make a mistake. Always. Doesn't matter what you're "allergic to" /might be killed by. You can't live life in a bubble and expecting others to is insane. They were taking the precaution of ordering the right kind of soda for the kid. The only other thing they maybe could have been expected to do was explain that he is diabetic and it's very important he get diet.
After that, they are literally just being humans, asking for a service that the theatre says they offer. Just like someone who buys a ticket to a plane has a reasonable expectation a terrorist is not going to fly them into the ocean.
You are missing my point. The original commenter in the post is being overly dramatic. If it really is a matter of life or death the way they express it then they would take precautions on that level. I’m not trying to oppress the people with medical problems, I’m saying this person is full of shit.
They're being just dramatic enough. Some people don't actively consider their conditions on the day to day, I've had soldiers forget inhalers, not know that the Cooks use real shellfish, or they had a preexisting condition spontaneously go from mild to lethal.
Honestly, I feel far far worse for children who grew up with the "take no chances" style of parenting. The minor risk of death or serious injury that comes with living is 100% the life you get to live by taking those risks. Obviously their is a point where you need to take a step back and say "the risks are too high, not worth it". And being a responsible person is in part being aware of risks and knowing when you shouldn't take them. But living in a bubble isn't living.
