Where I work, you will either get written up or fired for that. If it didn't get approved, it is because we need you for safety reasons.

So what is it called when you request the time off and then keep getting denied because the other people of your team request a day or two in between and he refuses to cover it, gives others priority who do not have seniority, and will generally act like and asshole. And on top of all that will usually just not show up himself and yet have an infinite amount of off days remaining.

Your job pays your bills. It gives you food, housing, entertainment, etc. If you want to be entitled then as @garlog said. Enjoy unemployment.

The thing is, when I go for annual leave, usually no one covers while I'm away because there is no one to cover. I have to leave my poor manager on his own.

Lack of appreciation for a job. That's what that is. Sorry you have to deal with that.

The thing is that I'm a pharmacist assistant, so when my manager is off, there is always cover as a chemist cannot run without a pharmacist working there. But if I go away, it's hard to find someone to cover because there aren't relief dispensers/assistants
