I didnt say anything about being white. Im white and the closest opportunity to have something like this was to go to the Air Force after high school. Pretty sure her well off parent paid for her 19 different space camps, training in other countries, and her private school tutoring. My dad could barely afford a single christmas present at the end of the year.
Plenty of Astronauts come from the air force / have a military background. It can be done, just gotta play with the hand they've been dealt.
Motorsport is a pretty money driven and finically taxing sport, yet there are cases where people make it by showing their skill rather than money.
Believe me I would love to have taken the air force route. I was told I couldn't pilot because at 6' 2" my sitting height was over the 40" limit for cockpits.
I'm sorry to hear that, I really am. But for you to diminish someone else's achievements by claiming privilege, is really kind of sad. At the end of the day, she's proven that she's capable, she graduated from various different space related courses at the age of 7, and she's genuinely driven to achieve a goal, whether or not her parents may be wealthy (there's no info about them online). Reducing those achievements 'privilege', is nothing short of spiteful
Well fuck me if I'm not applauding her father's money and connections to get the chances she's having. Call it what you want but that's at least 75% privilege. Yeah she went through the courses and training but how many others would blow her out of the water even given the chance. Spiteful sure but not untrue.
How do you know it was her father's money and connections?
If she was scouted at a young age, she would have no problems getting a grants and bursaries from Universities and probably NASA themselves. But from what I can find, there's no mention of how any of this was funded, so I'm gonna assume you're doing nothing more than jumping to spiteful conclusions.
Well I can't post urls but the very first link upon searching her father Bert Carson is an article by the the daily advertiser that talks about how he put her in a private school, through 19 different space camps and had connections to the director of NASA to even get noticed in the first place. Nice little quote at the end of it even says, “The reason we met Bill Parsons is because he went to high school, in a very small town, with a good friend of mine,” Bert says. “My buddy heard about what Alyssa was doing and set up her first meeting with Bill. You would never guess that (one of NASA'S top people) is from Chatawa, Mississippi!”. And that's the extent of the energy I care to put forth for this. Don't like my opinion, shove it up your ass and happy holidays. Don't know why I was debating anything on the internet anyways.
In case of failure in landing, and she needs to manually land the ship on mars.
Additionally, you’d need to train your body to handle the G forces.
It’s literally rocket science. You don’t learn how to drive a car in a few months if you’ve never been in one before
Pretty sure none of that would take 14 years to learn or achieve. Also, not that I want to toot my own horn but it took you more than a few months to learn to drive?
1. No, but to do it well with all experience takes a while
2. You are in a car almost every day since you are born. You know almost every detail about it even if you don’t realise.
3. It’s a fuckin rocket. It’s literally rocket science
4. She’s not just going to step off and chill. She’s going to be doing important scientific research.
And that’s even if she gets there. Any number of “The Martian.” Situations could happen and she needs to know how to fix them.
