Still doesn’t hold up. Say that someone is into hip hop. They dress is the current style, speak in novel words or with certain inflections not traditionally found in English-dance or “swag” or otherwise move in a stylistic manner. What is the difference between “skrrrrt” or “-izzle” or “okerrrr” etc. and a growl? Yeezies or robins or team hoodies etc. and horsies with bunny ears or stewpot baggy pants? Perhaps it isn’t fair to say being bullied for “naruto running” is being bullied for liking anime, but we could say it’s being bullied for showing your love of anime, for participating in an anime sub culture.

It really depends on where one grows up. In my area, liking anime was permissible socially, as long as someone wasn't bringing body pillows to school (pretty sure those wouldn't be allowed, anyway). For my school, this did reign true. We had those that would literally bite the air and snarl at others for making fun of them for Naruto running. Although, this post makes it seem as though bullying someone for those reasons is somehow the right thing to do. No one should be bullied, period. I agree with the reality of what happens highlighted in the post, but I definitely don't condone the actions taken against these people, or the attitude about bullying those for performing the aformentioned actions.

I would agree, and yes. Location and other factors play a role. I’ve seen people be bullied or looked down on just for liking anime (not just in memes or online), but in real life where people have looked down on or teased or even been- somewhat disgusted or put off by the fact a person likes anime. I agree that people shouldn’t be bullied for enjoying something that doesn’t hurt anyone.

Kids get bullied because the physical and emotional torture of children by other children is considered acceptable behaviour.
