Yes. That $200-500 every few years on tats and the $5-20 a month on Netflix really kill you. Let’s see... a one bedroom condo where I live is $400k and up, and about $1000 a month in dues etc. on top of mortgage and bills. Or rent if for $2100 a month plus bills. Minimum wage pays... about $1500 a month... yeah. No. Cancel Netflix and I think you could do fine.
Yeah, for comparison I'm on early retirement for a disability in Sweden. By European and Swedish standards I'm considered poor with an income of about $1300 per month, half of which goes to pay for my two bedroom flat in the second largest city.
Thank you for sharing your situation and perspective. The reality is that many people around the globe are paying 50% or more of income for housing- when the system is structured to assume 30% or less of total income goes to housing. Obviously the less income a person has- the less that remaining 50% is able to do for them. People can “survive” on $0 a month- but having a little more than that but not enough to leverage to better your situation is rough, and a person in that situation shouldn’t be told tits self inflicted because they bought a play station they’ll use for years or more after saving up to get it.
I love when people point out your hobbies or interests as proof that you could live off minimum wage as if living without them doesn't make life completely unfulfilling and not even worth living.
I don't think people should have to trade over half their lives just to enjoy being.
All that said who the fuck pays for Hulu or Netflix?
