We are all Americans. So why do some people call themselves “Texan” or “New Yorker” etc? You see Mark... America isn’t a monoculture. San Francisco is a very different city than Los Angeles. Forth Worth is very different from Austin, Miami is not Pensacola. The food in NYC is not like the food in SF. You have different local histories and different ethnic groups. On the east coast you tend to find more Cubans and Puerto Rican’s and so on. In California and Texas you’ll tend to find more Mexicans- but the Mexican food from Texas and California tend to be different- and local adaptations of “Tex Mex” and California native Mexican food are very different.

And these people have cultures and traditions and customs and all sorts of things that are partially defined on where they are from or where their families came from, on the very different experiences that each group of immigrants and children of immigrants faced at different times in different places. Their culture and heritage is important to them, history and traditions that originate from these backgrounds.

If you’re an Irish American or a German American or a Welsh American or Spanish America etc etc- you can call yourself that. Many people do. If their heritage is important to them. Of their family has kept any of the traditions or language or culture of their people. In some parts of the country it still matters a lot wether you’re- for instance Irish American or Italian American. Those groups have a lot of history in some areas. Being one or the other or even seen as one or the other can open or close doors and change the way certain people think and fee about you. There is and always has been prejudice between various European descendants in America- it’s just not matter how bad they had, other non European minorities usually had it worse because while this or that group of Europeans didn’t like the other... the “Asians” or the “blacks” etc. have usually gotten it bad from all those other groups.

In New York the Irish were hated and treated terribly- and even the Irish as a general group believed they should be treated better than the blacks. So... we are all Americans- but we are not “just” Americans because there are many faces to America. That’s how America is supposed to be. Room enough for everyone to be who they want and live their own way, and those many different people each giving strength and enhancing our country through what they bring and their perspectives.

Tl:dr- we are all Americans, but no one is “just” American. We have different cultures and states and cities. Different food and different lifestyles and religions and perspectives. There is no single American culture, coast to coast you’ll see culture change as you drive down the highway. So if we can have “Texans” and “Southerners” and “Californians” etc. who’s “just an American”? I’ve never met one before.

You can't secure against smallpox

You actually can secure against the worst of a disease. TB is a pretty big problem in the States, but without border enforcement it and other diseases would be devastating us.

@xboxgorgo18- I’m a mixed heritage native. I have family who lives on a reservation. I’m a... native AMERICAN. And wether one is Blackfoot or Choctaw or Puebloan or any other tribe they aren’t “just” Native American. Growing up we had cultural education, we’d put on demos and crafts and what not at fairs and other things. So we can argue over who has legitimacy and all of this other stuff but... this is America wether it is the United States of or just North. We are Americans. We live in America and love America wether or not we love the United States government or our neighbors. Those who don’t want to have anything to do with it can stay on the Res and “just be” whatever tribe they are. For anyone else- Americans are all <something> Americans.

Lol. Thank you. I “cook” them sometimes which is why regrettably I might “cut off” someone else’s post or seem to ignore it. I’ll start writing, leave it open, and start/stop in between tasks. A lot of my day has these little 30 second to 3 minute windows where I am waiting before I can do anything- so I usually just fill it in here.

Lol. Who says I haven’t? That’s part of the fun of this. Relative compete freedom to just go through ideas and what not without the constraints. You can test ideas, fish off the pier, stir the pot, and bounce ideas around. This is a very good place to look through a two way mirror and set up all sorts of interesting things.
