We had a similar airport story in France (Notre-Dame des Landes, according to the Wikipedia page the operation was launched in 1963 and aborted in 2018) but the reactions are by far less funny. Now a mixed community lives on site, consisting of opponents to the projects who apparently started to have their habits here and won't leave and a lot of homeless people.
Ugh sounds annoying and like a waste of money as well.
I mean, there's enough people who are extremely furious about it as well, seeing as it's their tax money.
