you dont even have to go that far back
people in not that long ago time; lets just electrocute this person in front of 20 people using a wet sponge and a metal bowl
Well that person killed people it was more humain than hanging.
The bull was used at parties and when murders were all gone they used small time criminals like thiefs or people who owed taxes. Than after them poor people.
Now if you want a close in time proof of violence what about lynch mobs or KKK or the black dalihia, or Bonnie and Clyde?
hanging is instant when done correctly and was far easier to do correctly than the electric chair. Floor drops, person falls, they die and feel nothing. With the electric chair they took around 8 minutes to die and its form of no pain wasnt fully no pain, before you go unconscious the area around the electrode has the blood vessels rupture and the way that it actually went was sitting there giving 30 minute bursts of electricity and having an doctor checking if they are alive after every burst. even if a hanging went wrong you would pass out from lack of blood flow.
Ok first off with hanging even when done correctly there is a shit load of pain. The neck snaps and the person is unable to move they just twitch as they slowly die from their throat being crushed and they die of lack of oxygen. There is no instant death.
The first thing they feel is the snap of their neck. It feels like your head just got ripped off but you feel your broken bones pushing against the rope because they are being squeezed so tightly they are cracking more from the pressure. Your body below your neck goes numb and feels like it's on fire. You feel the rub burn of the rope around there neck. You can't speak as you gasp for air that you can not swallow. Your head beings to feel hot and swollen and the pain is unbearable as you twitch in agony. You start to feel loopy like any second you will pass out but the pain is keeping you awake.
Your eyes get tight and start to push against your eyelids as if they are trying to escape. (Your eyes might actually pop out that has happen it is why they tie bags around people's heads)
You feel you can't keep your tongue in your mouth, it feel swollen and dry.
Finally your heart and lungs feel like they will explode and you die.
And that is if done right.
Electric chair
Done correctly is no where near as bad.
The sponge is used to focus the electric current so it goes directly into your brain.
You wear a diaper for when you shit and piss yourself and trust me that's not an if that is a when.
They strap you in and first you feel the cool wet sponge and leather straps pinning you down.
Than the electric chair is turned on. You get hit with so much wattage you feel nothing but your entire body tense up. It's like that feeling after your leg goes to sleep and when it wakes up it is painful as the feeling goes back to the leg but a million times worse. Except you feel like your skin shrunk 3 sizes and your skin is so tight you would tear it if you moved. Your heart the whole time feels like it is going to burst right out of your chest like an alien.
When they finally turn off the current you collapse and your heart gives out from the rapped beating.
This is around the time you empty your bowls and bladder.
Sometimes yes there is a chance you are alive so before you wake (because when you come off of it you pass out) they turn it back on and it feels like you never left it.
By the second time you are dead hardly and I mean HARDLY anyone lives past 2.
Trust me between electric chair or rope give me electric chair.
Hanging deaths send you into unconscious instantaneously. What you are talking about is either a short drop hanging which was never done in America or a botched hanging where the person didn't fall far enough and died by strangulation which was rather rare of an occurrence and only happened if the hangman fucked up the rope length.
Actually hang men tried to snap the neck. It was due to the fact the hanged died faster.
And it had nothing to do with the length of the drop. The person just had to not touch the ground even on tippy toes.
What mattered is the weight of the person. Some people would even place rocks in the person's pockets to weigh them down to snap the neck easier.
And no one suffocate instantly.
Are you basing your facts on TV and movies?
Because I actually did a study on the ways people were executed, when I was in highschool. We all had to write a paper on the history of crime. My topic was execution.
I wrote about the bull, electrocution, hanging, guillotine, drawn and quartered, burning, firing squad, the needle, and stoning.
The only reliably instant form of execution is gunshot to the base of the skull, angled so that the shot will obliterate the reptilian brain, damage the brain stem, and the hydrostatic shock will blend what's left to mush.
I've been too cold to wish it on anyone but the bad guys. If I have to punch my ticket early, I'd like to do so in a manner that will get me picked up by the Valkyries.
"It has nothing to do with the length of the drop"
This is just patently false. A 2 inch drop isn't going to do shit to a person othe than set the noose in place to strangulate them. It's entirely dependent on the length of the drop. That's why there are multiple length techniques for hanging executions, that's why "long drop" and "short drop" hangings are distinct from each other. Literally just google "long drop hanging execution."
In the words of Don Henley
"The bubbleheaded bleach blonde comes on at 5
She can tell you 'bout the plane crash
With a gleam in her eye
It's interesting when people die."
.
It's all over news sites, all over the internet, used in video games, movies, books, all over websites like 4chan, etc etc etc. There's still ritualistic and sport killings - both human and animal - in all parts of the world as well
.
Death is still entertainment, we're just more subtle about broadcasting it that way
It occurs to me that someone somewhere must have seen this pic without context or caption. Just a guy who's been swallowed whole by a bull that is now roasting itself over a fire. Nothing to see here
