They also dumped any "assault weapons" and ammunition in associated calibers, but being a business first and foremost they clearanced the stuff and sold it instead of sending it back. Still pissed I missed out on all that cheap ammo

Well... yeah. Guns can be- and for a long time were- part of “wholesome family bonding.” There’s nothing inherently obscene about guns. No fowl language, nudity, drugs, alcohol, sexual themes or even violence needs to occur. Target shooting is not really much different than throwing a football through a tire- and jr archery is a huge thing- why does it matter that the projectile comes from a gun or a crossbow or a long bow?

When it comes to kids and violence- nerf and water guns would be a better thing (if still a somewhat silly thing in my mind) to harp on. I mean- those are- much like games- something adults can play and are sometimes marketed to adults but largely seen as an “all ages” or “youth specific” market- in the toy isle (the same as mature games are usually mixed with all ages or kids games) and you’re encouraged to shoot other people with nerf and water guns- as opposed to firearms which have their own section in the outdoors area and kids aren’t allowed to basically buy anything in that kiosk.

I think removing mature games is pretty silly and pointless- and I don’t support the move. That said- saying they removed mature games but not real guns is like saying “How dare McDonald’s shut down their drive through but still sell pies...” what the ever loving frack does one have to do with the other?

I mean, a little brother pegging you in the nuts isn't nearly as potentially dangerous, but so long as you are responsible, there's nothing wrong with guns. I don't have one around just because even if locked in a safe with the key hidden up my own ass I'd still wind up paranoid and have to make sure it's all good. That's just unnecessary stress that has cost me money. I'm also happy I was taught how to use and take care of one by my dad; I'm grateful for that, and if I ever have a kid, I'll pass that knowledge on. You can just rent a gun at a range if you want to do that (this is also a good idea if you are thinking of buying a gun and want to test the feel).
