pliers, a flat head screw driver, and a dremel drill with a burnisher tip, wasn't the whole braces, but the permanent retainer that needed removal. speaking from experience.

I had a permanent retainer once. Because of some minor fuckup they had putting it on, my gums starting growing over the metal. They had to take it out.
my orthodontist had MS or something, got worse and worse each time i saw him, i never went to the final appointment to remove them, 10 years later, i did it myself
I have a permanent retainer in the front of my lower front teeth. Nobody told me they were going to cement glue the damn thing on... a few years later I asked when it was coming out and I got PISSED at the answer. It was one of the few times before I turned 18 my mom tolerated my cussing.
If don't recall needing any sort of anesthetic when they took the braces out, just slowly removed the wire, then used a little gun thing to... I guess dissolve the glue cement that was holding each brace onto the tooth? I think that's whatever that thing did. Idk, all I remember was wanting them off and thinking "I'm done, never again!", being wrong, and also how GD smooth I forgot teeth were.
So my aunt never had her braces professionally removed. After about 2 years the glue starts to weaken and you can actually pull them off by force. Anyway.
