I mean... you could see some humorous truth there- but.... they are literally creating a life. If you could shit $100 bills but each one felt like a hot razor, what color would you paint your mansion- you feel me? Most gamers would still game if every 500 hours felt like giving birth I’d imagine. So to create a brand new human- I suspect it’s ultimately worth it- and in the distance of memory the good tends to outweigh the bad.

Bruh. Children cost WAY more than they earn. It’s about emotional value. So not $100 bills. More like... drugs

Lol. I suppose it wasn’t the best metaphor- human life is priceless- I more just meant it in the way that not everyone wants kids, but I don’t know too many people who don’t want $100 bills. As for the drugs... don’t you guys go starting up that Jenkem thing again!

It’s biology. The brain releases chemicals when they see their infant that are so strong it basically erases all of the suffering that led up to the first time they see their child. If women remembered every part of pregnancy and childbirth, most women would likely only have one child and many would have none.

Certainly the biological component is strong scientifically- the pain of childbirth also can release massive amounts of endorphins and other hormones. Add to that- as you say- high levels of oxytocin and other “feel good hormones” after child birth- hormones like oxytocin are in part what makes hugs “feel good” and also plays a part in post coital relaxation and contentment. As you say- the negative feelings don’t have as strong an impact usually as the positive ones do on the reward centers of the brain in forming behaviors.

There are of course other psychological and physiological factors that can contribute as well- as a fun fact- when a mother gives birth not only does she receive stem cells which can theoretically effect health and well being- even if slightly- but she may incorporate genetic material from her child into her own- for instance a mother of boys might actually end up with cells from her child her body- these left over fetal cells can actually significantly effect the mother’s health.

Studies have shown mothers of boys for example- to have Y chromosomes in their blood and “male” cells in their bodies. Studies have shown all manner of effects from staggering reductions in mortality rates to lower chances of cancer. Although- in studies risks like cardiac troubles were indicated to be higher. Still- interesting and a potential subconscious biological motivator.
