That's the case for every romance in TV and movies. It's that people often see gay romance as forced because it's uncommon, and thus somebody must have agenda when they put it in.
Nope, I'm fine with it being there, in fact I prefer it over the nauseating girl-boy trope, but sometimes the characters don't gel well or the actors don't play it well. Then it feels forced.
I find them forced when they go about it as "this character is gay, and also they're gay. They have a job, but don't forget that they're gay, okay? They get along with this other character well, but there is some bad history there and, holy hell, did you FORGET the character is GAY? Already?! They're gay, okay? Ffs I'm going to have to dedicate at least half an hour to make sure you remember how persecuted this person is by the mere fact that they exist even though there's no actual relevance to the plot."
.
And I'm just sitting there wondering what in hell any of that has to do with anything, and why I can't just watch the dinosaurs eat people (or whatever happens to be the actual reason I came to see the movie/show/etc)
If a character's core personality trait is: gay! , it gets annoying. Brooklyn Nine Nine did it well imo, where yes, these characters are gay, but not every interaction with them involves them being gay
^exactly what @mrfahtenheit said. It bugs me so much when people make their sexuality their personality. You are a PERSON, you have so many more aspects, traits and quirks that define you than just who you like to bang.
