Having watched a video this morning about a guy harvesting cats off the streets in china and boiling them alive to sell as medicine, NGL I am a bit triggered
He was arrested and the cats that were still alive were rescued.
.
Disturbing content warning for any unprepared passerby:
.
He kept them alive in steel traps with small air vents and no food or water. Some of them were kept in cages with 3-5 cats in one, smashed on top of each other. They just had to sit there, starving and terrified, listening to the other cats scream as they died. Some of them he cut their organs out while they were alive. Mostly he boiled them, slowly. The live cats had scratched up their scalps and faces trying so hard to get out
.
The rescuers asked why he killed them in such a cruel manner and his response was "they're just stray cats." Which is horrifying enough, but also incorrect because some of them were actually pets that had gotten in the traps as well.
.
They estimate he killed at least 40 a month in this manner. And the people in the market gladly bought them up to turn into medicine that would "cure joint pain"
When we had Chinese workers in the country to build a bridge they paid people to sell them cats to eat :( we have a lot of stray cats and by the time they were done with the project and left very few survived. On top of how strays didn’t deserve it (cause these workers had housing and food provided) it was terrifying to think of any lost pets that could’ve been captured by stupid kids for some quick money
Tbh it's not even so much the fact the cats were being eaten (i mean I find that disturbing, but lots of types of animals are eaten and I understand there's cultural differences sometimes. Though the ones in these case weren't even being killed for food or didn't NEED to be) but the horrific torture they went through. It's like something out of the saw franchise, but it's very very real.
.
Tbh, the people involved (Kritter Klub) work so hard to save animals from such horrific things, the likes of which I'd never thought existed, but I can barely watch their videos most of the time because I just want to take a blowtorch to humanity by the time they're over
In that case... based on some of the other animals they've rescued (kittens dying in a trap of tar and barbed wire, anyone?) I'm gonna need something MUCH bigger than a scalpel
Express shipping?
