If it doesn't take any real effort, sure, but if they've already filmed a lot of the scenes or some shit, then just let it go, don't fuck things up that are already done.
No DV from me. The mob doesn’t think very far ahead. Assume Heard is 1000% guilty of all accusations. Who else suffers from a reshoot? Every actor or producer etc in the film most likely- especially those who’s pay is based on the films earnings. Their pay is delayed- and likely substantially reduced. VFX studios will probably suffer (we’ve gone in depth on other posts about how these things like redoing Sonic often cause further abuse of the already stressed VFX industry and worker....) But there are ripples to theaters and press tours and journalists and all manner of places. What did the guys who made Aquaman toys have to do with what Heard did- and what will they do with the many hundreds of thousands of dollars on molds and merchandise they made with her that is now effectively useless?
Who foots that bill? What about having to warehouse and sit on ready to ship product or take the hit when there’s no movie to back the line made for the film that isn’t coming out for at least 6-12 more months now?
What Justice is done to punish Amber Heard this way if it involves the collective punishment of every single other person involved in a massive multi million dollar creative project? By that same logic- are we alright with the idea that the police can blow up a city bus that has a murderer on it to punish them- even if there are 100 people that had nothing to do with it on the same bus?
It is of course a slippery slope. Some legal method to withhold her pay, to somehow reduce or eliminate her ability to profit from her work, or make her cover the costs to remove her, would ease that burden to others and punish her... but wow. That’s a scary precedent. Imagine a world where a crime that can be a felony or misdemeanor- in the latter case having a 1 year maximum sentence- is punishable with hundreds of millions of dollars in fines and the forfeiture of a year or more of your livelihood and possibly future earnings? That a conviction- or in this case not even being convicted yet- could mean that you were blacklisted from your field of gainful employment.
Domestic abuse is a serious thing- but like Robbery, general assault, etc- there are certainly degrees to the crime and it doesn’t seem to make sense to treat them all the same does it? Slapping someone and choking them until they pass out, pinching them and breaking 14 of their bones by slamming a door on them.... probably should t be treated the same should they? This is why a logical and impartial judicial process is important. The mob just wants to FEEL righteous. The mob doesn’t think about or often doesn’t care about who gets hurt in their quest to get vengeance and not justice.
You're right. Assume Heard IS 1000% guilty. Every man on that set should be forced to continue working with an abuser and watch the sales of their movie likely tank when no one wants to go see it because she's in it.
.
I mean, if it were females on the set, and a guy on the set was 10000% guilty of beating, abusing, and amputating women in his spare time, people would absolutely insist that he be kept on for the good of his female co-workers.
.
That sounds absolutely like thinking into the future and cannot backfire in any way.
.
Fyi - the mob is how this thing got started. This petition is not "the mob." This petition is a response TO the mob. Telling them their tactics have repercussions. If someone breaks into your house, beats the shit out of you, and then points a gun on you, and you manage to turn the gun on them instead, that does not make you the assailant.
guest_ I love you man but replace Heard with Kevin Spacey. He was hard removed from every project he was on. It's fine. They'll be fine. It's not like these studios don't have money, you forget they did tons of reshooting and re-editing for suicide squad and Justice League and those movies underperformed and they're still around. Warner Bros has money. It's not an indie movie.
TLDR; hey, simple solution... just do whatever Marvel from Iron Man 1 to 2, Don Cheadle looks way better in all the subsequent Iron Man / Avengers films than in IM1. Give the makeup lady from first film the boot. (Lol, no I realize they changed actor; just saying... find someone OTHER THAN HELEN BONHAM CARTER to put on tights & get wet with Jason Momoa. Oooh, crazy idea... cast someone without a past, y'know a NEW person!)
There is an Audio tape of Heard admitting to hitting her ex. However- there are still ongoing trials and the depth and degree of guilt- the circumstances under which various things occurred- is yet to be determined. While even hitting a partner once is too many times- we do t have all the details- and it’s no better at this point to seek to end her career than people were for vilifying Depp when he was accused of abuse. An ongoing legal battle over wether Heard was abused, Depp, or wether they abused each other has yet to be settled. At this point- if we black list one we would have to black list both until the accusations were settled- and that doesn’t seem right.
The defamation suit will go a long way in lending credit to wether or not Heard was abused- of course even if it is found she lied or defamed Depp on some counts- that would t completely absolve him necessarily. But while we SHOULD take the allegations of both parties seriously until they are disproven- to seek penalties at a point where we don’t yet have the full story is rash and irresponsible.
To the point- she is on tape saying she hit him. But... you’ll hear people saying all sorts of things that did or didn’t happen. People lie, fib, embellish. You’ve never met someone who claimed to have gotten in or won a fight that never happened? There’s a whole genre of memes- “and then everyone clapped” and so on- based on stories of “shower thoughts” of people saying what they wish they did or said; or want people to think they did for whatever reason. I think she hit him- but I haven’t talked to her or Depp, examined evidence and heard all sides of the story- my guess is neither have you. The courts aren’t done yet- so I think we need to cool our jets a bit and see what the whole story is for sure before we ramp up to cause havoc in people’s lives.
Have you listened to the tape? She's yelling at him for not physically fighting back, and telling him no one will believe shes abusing him because he's a man. Sounds open and shut to me
I can't believe I still have to explain this to people at all, let alone on this website.
.
I'm guessing you missed the part where Johnny tried to de-escalate one of their fights by calling the building manager and Heard responded by calling him a baby, taunting him, and telling him to go jack off the manager.
.
How about the part where she severed the tip of Depp's finger with a bottle?
.
Iirc there was also a time when Depp was in mourning after someone he loved died, and Heard tried to goad him to physical violence while she was recording him.
.
There's potential proof she FAKED some of her bruises to make Depp look bad.
.
Yes, Depp abused her. But Heard was often the main aggressor.
.
And one thing depp did NOT do was try and destroy her life.
Because of her allegations Depp has lost friends, and he has been removed from SEVERAL projects, including Pirates of the Caribbean. Because she decided to play the victim and pretend she had any place claiming to be part of "MeToo" both their children have been bullied.
.
Make no mistake: Amber Heard was on a campaign to destroy Depp. Completely. She was going to be the hapless victim and he was going to be the villain and pay for ALL his imagined crimes. For the record - her antics and the people she was preaching to can and have lead to people KILLING themselves.
.
And her being the "strong, empowered damsel in distress" is STILL her narrative. She's just sad it backfired so horrifically.
You want to defend "both sides" ? This is the first time she will receive anything remotely close to the exact treatment she gave him.
.
Even if he wins the court battles his reputation and what he went through and what his child went through will never be fully repaired. You think Disney and all the other projects will reinstate him? What about the prospective jobs he would have worked that won't even look his way now?
.
I for one am goddamn sick of these women abusing the system and abusing men. And if this is the LEAST of the consequences she faces she should count herself damn lucky.
.
Fortunately for her Aquaman is produced by Marvel, and marvel absolutely LOVES abusive and/or man-hating women, so Heard will probably be right at home and likely has job security for life.
And I'm not talking about 5000 hypothetical situations. I'm talking about this one. Right here. A toxic relationship where one person's life is completely decimated because the other person has a vagina and great big crocodile tears. If he didn't have video and recordings people would be skinning him in the streets right now.
.
She took this to a public platform and did everything in her power to destroy his life. She does not deserve the mercy she refused and continues to refuse to show him. Eventually people have to say enough to this whole "guilty even when proven innocent" format.
@grimreaper DC isn't actually much better, but ty for the correction. (I have no idea if this sounds sarcastic but it's meant sincere)
.
Also @guest_ I feel inclined to say I'm not intending to direct a lot of hostility your way it is not intended, or about YOU personally, and I do apologize if it has come across that way
@xvarnah and @xdmaniac- I am thankful everyday that a tape played to the public isn’t enough to convict a person alone. Like I said- I think she did it- but it’s not quite all wrapped up facts wise just just. Now- wether a person believes one way or another on my next examples isn’t important- if you believe Trump guilty of certain crimes based on tapes of him- or that certain police are murderers because of video of them in shootings- you can already agree people interpret tapes that are seemingly clear, incorrectly, often. If you believe many of these “caught on tape” moments like Some of the things throw against Trump are invalid and misrepresented- then you’d still be able to see that even a tape doesn’t produce reliable, “slam dunk” evidence of guilt or innocence alone. That’s why you can’t just mail a tape to a court trial and declare yourself innocent or the other person guilty right? We need examination and cross examination of facts and context no?
And @xvarnah- I never said Depp tried to ruin Heard. I was saying that a mob- without trial- the definition of “mob justice,” based on emotional reaction to a portion of known facts- is signing petitions and making campaigns to try to get this woman fired before a court verdict of her guilt is even passed. Your reply does illustrate my point on emotional response though. You’re TIRED of these abusive women getting away with it. Here is one, very public, you have no personal attachment to- who can be made to pay- who can become the effigy of which people pile their frustrations and outrage at a social issue and personal or unrelated injustices. Ironically- in other posts you’ve spoken on the subject of rape accusers- and how their actions ruin lives when the facts do not back up their accusations- or those accusations prove false. It makes sense that the same principal applies to this situation- I see no hypocrisy there-
but calling to ruin someone’s career or upset their livelihood and label them a certain way without a completed trail would make us the same as those people who ruin the lives of others based on accusations would it not? If we have a problem with false abuse and accusations ruining lives in society- isn’t one actionable way that each one of us as individuals could actually make a personal difference be... to stop being part of the mob seeking blood for blood before the ink on an investigation is even done? That’s the difference between armchair righteousness and seeking to feel that power- and being what we expect others to be. Personal effort.
I never once said anything about Depp trying to ruin Heard.
.
And like I said - depp was already found guilty. The court system moves slowly and is out of date. The petition in no way guarantees anything at all will happen to Heard. But it does let people know that "BelieveWomen" always all the time is nothing but a bunch of spastic insanity.
.
Like I said - people like Heard can and have and will drive people into suicide. Depp is ONLY doing as well as he is because he had video footage, and because he is extremely famous. The people like him without those factors have been far, far, FAR less lucky in the past.
.
Her and the sociopathic, cruel, idiots who follow her make it so if a woman goes out and is actually raped or abused tomorrow, no one is going to believe her. And yet, somehow, if a woman goes out and decides she doesn't like a guy's coat, she can say he assaulted her, and his life will absolutely be destroyed. THAT'S the damage people like her are doing.
You don't have to take a stand against anyone, ever. That's entirely your right.
.
I didn't form this opinion willy-nilly. I waited months to see where the case was going. I've listened to the evidence. And I've said it before: Depp is no angel in this scenario. But she tried to stand on the backs of rape and abuse victims to put her OWN "victim" in his place, and take everything from him in the process.
.
DC is under no obligated to remove Heard. Honestly, I think the more ironic option would be if they keep her on and absolutely no one ends up going to see it. Unfortunately that means the other actors and creators on the project are forced to suffer as well.
.
If asking she face even one fraction of the consequences she directed at others makes me the same as her in your eyes, I guess you'll have to find a way to live with that
I assure you, nothing that happens in the comment section of a meme website is something I have to find a way to live with. But to the immediate point- the entire point of the post we are responding to is desire of a mass of people to remove her from a job she was hired for because of her actions in her personal life. My reply was that removing someone from a job based on gossip and snippets of their personal life- especially when those details are tied up in a legal case which hasn’t yet been finished- is premature.
You may be satisfied with the evidence to declare a verdict- that’s is what a kangaroo court is, is it not? But we have yet to see what punishment the legal system might visit upon her- let alone if she is declared guilty by.. the professionals and systems which represent the basic criteria by which guilt is to be judged.... and people already ha e decided she is guilty, and deserves whatever punishment the public decides she should have. Can you imagine a legal system where the punishments for a crime were dependent upon what the mass public decided they wanted to see?
And @xvarnah- what is Depps stance in all’s this? What does HE the primary victim of the alleged acts- what does HE want to happen? Does he want a boycott? By standing on lies and so forth- one also wrongs the public and real victims. But if Johnny Depp- the man she hit and a rich, powerful, celebrity must go to court to get his due... why is it ok for everyone else that feels wronged to take what they think is fair? As for living with it... I have to live in this world- and I don’t want to live in a world of mob justice and emotional reactionism.
Then it sounds like you already HAVE found a way to live with it and the problem solves itself.
.
People didn't DECIDE she's guilty. People DECIDED he was guilty. Heard flat out admitted she's guilty - to Depp. She told him point blank she knew he was a victim of her abuse, and no one would ever believe him over her. If I see video of someone stabbing someone else, I don't NEED a group of 12 other people to inform me they did it.
.
Iirc, at one point Depp very much wanted her killed. So, by all means, give the victim what they want, since it supersedes everyone else's thoughts on the matter, yes? Or maybe that's insanity.
.
Her behavior has more than one victim. As I said. She stood on the backs of all victims of abuse. She created NEW victims and perpetuated existing ones. Her actions have a MUCH farther reach than just Depp.
I have to live in this world too. And this isn't "mob justice." This is a response. This is people saying "you don't get to destroy lives without consequence."
.
These vile, putrid disgraces of the human race have gotten away with this behaviour for a long time.
.
If being removed from a single movie is so so devastating, then perhaps she should have taken that into consideration before she attempted to have her victim removed from his entire support system and career?
.
Fun fact - as far as I know Disney still hasn't reinstated Depp for PotC. He will likely NEVER get that work back. And she absolutely WILL do this again, to other men. Because she has decided, and society by and large has told her, this is okay.
.
If nothing else this petition should open some peoples' eyes that, no, it really isn't okay.
I've seen the world they're trying to create and the absolute devastation it leaves behind. Often times there is NO recovery.
.
The next time this happens, the next time a guy in this position kills himself, tell me all about the joys of sitting on our hands, and the world you want to live in.
.
