When I tell my GF we need to start cutting costs

You probably don’t need the video game for work. While it’s not absolutely certain, it’s likely the GF does need expensive hair and nails for work, esp if she’s on a career track.

I'm going to guess the hair and the nails are a large part of why you started dating her. So maybe she should start doing her nails at home, and you should buy a 30$ video game.
