Paracetamol reduces fever and pain. Use to relieve cold and flu symptoms.
Ibuprofen reduces inflammation. Use to reduce aches and pains in muscles and joints.

Heads up, ibuprofen can slow bone healing, so be keep that in mind if it's a skeletal issue like shin splints (actual shin splints, not sore legs).
