And a significant increase in quality! People always seem to forget that freshly grown products almost always taste much better, as well. When I was barely a lightbulb, I used to absolutely hate tomatoes because of their taste/texture (even nowadays I still avoid them), but when we grew our own cherry tomatoes, I tried one and it was delicious. A few months ago, we made a smoothie out of the fruits and vegetables my grandma grows, and it was one of the best things I ever had the honour to drink.
Unless you eat tomatoes and make a lot of recipes with tomatoes be forewarned it is easier to buy them if you don’t want.
Tomatoes is the weeds of produce lol they sprung up fast and produce way more than you can eat. Unless you have a large family and friends you can hand out to be far warned.
I can from a family with 6 kids and our grand mother lived with us that is 9 people total. My mom decided to grow a bunch of stuff carrots where great. Green beans went great. She even had a few heads of sunflowers. The best was the okra. BUT JESUS H CHRIST THOSE DAMN TOMATOES!!! We had just 2 plants at first they were growing like cherry tomatoes which is fine my grandmother loved it. But as the bushes got older they started growing these monster truck tomatoes that looked like Dr. Frankenstein had his hand in it. And they kept coming. in Texas summer last a long ass time so it felt like they never stopped.
Tomatoes are freaks!!!
I am warning you lol
Oh yeah, you gotta take care of vine plants and make sure they don't grow out of control. That applies to almost every plant, though. We have a neighbor that has such a massive mango tree on their front yard that produces so many he allows the entire neighbourhood to take as many as they want, and even then there's still an excess. No idea what they did to the tree or the soil, but they're damn good mangoes. The squirrels and raccoons love them, too.
This. You also barely have to do anything for them, they're very easy to take care of and will grow well on its own. Just remember, tomato plants are vines and will absolutely grow out of control if you let them.
This is my first year growing my own veg and this is so true!! My tomato plants are taking up so much of my head space (which is a welcome distraction to be honest!) I've just had my first lot of radishes though which were great and required very little care.
