So you are telling me that because your country was falling apart it is American children who were the assholes for playing games and having a childhood while you couldn’t?
Well... yes and no. Little kids are little kids. What were they supposed to do- join in? But- American kids- 18,20 year old kids- were in Africa along with the UN in the 90’s. There were a lot of civil wars at that time- those “kids” flew over to Africa and did what they could to try to help- even though many didn’t understand what was going on, and other factors complicated the matter. But after the well known “black hawk down” incidents- the US pulled out of the African civil war business for awhile... if we don’t count the “Middle East.”
Speaking of “black hawk down,” many people didn’t understand or even know what was going on until years later if ever. Despite being a major and popular book and film with countless lesser known tellings- many Americans still don’t know the country or even the continent or the decade these events occurred. Not just Americans either.
I think being informed is good. We should all try. But- the US gets called out for- and in fairness often does- just assume that the rest of the world knows and cares about our history, our culture, celebrities and Hollywood gossip. Some know some- but it’s arrogant to assume people in Japan or Germany or Angola would know all our movies and shows- do we know theirs? Do most people know the major HK actors or Bollywood names? No.
So it may sound harsh- but it’s equally arrogant and a little hypocritical when the rest of the world assumes or shames the US for not knowing or caring about their shit.
Can you tell the difference between a Kurd and an Albanian, a Brahma and a Tamil, a Uyghur and a Hui, a Carolinian and a New Yorker? Can you also tell every single one of the other groups within a group I didn’t mention? Can you tell me their customs and dishes and histories and what issue they are facing right now? Can you tell an orthodox Ethiopian from a Muslim? Some can do SOME- but I’ve yet to meet someone who can do all. No one is omnipresent. It’s flattering you think US children could win your civil war- but I assure you they are just children, and us Americans aren’t that special I’m afraid.
Just tell me who's shooting at me or mine and I'll try to help when and where I can. Otherwise, I don't really care who's where until I either want to vacation there or the powers that be send me to wreck their shit.
