Every time as a kid when I had to go into a basement, at night, by myself. The amount of werewolves that some how found there way into said basements was astounding.

Feel ya!! There's this corridor at my parents so full of random stuff and obstacles that I couln't get in it as a kid and the shadows looked like a man. I convinced myself there was someone lurking there, so I had to turn the light on everytime I passed by it. Now I'm an adult but sometimes the guy moves and only becomes a lamp when I turn on the light.

That feeling when your stairwell light is at the bottom of the stairs so you have to sprint up the stairs after you turn it off in order to escape the shadows demons

It's your survival instincts kicking in. Our ancestors had to be aware at all times, now that things have changed that part still lingers inside us. So when you suddenly have a strange urge of dread or impending doom your body is trying to protect you. Listen to it even if it may sound ridiculous it may save your life.

This urge is what makes me think there's suddenly a serial killer in the hallway on the way back from the backroom every other night. Then ofc my own shadowy reflection in a mirror exacerbates the situation

Same. While going to the bathroom in the middle of the night my mind will make me think someone's sitting on the sofa. I look over nothing there but my brain is still telling there is.
