The bare-faced ground dove (Metriopelia ceciliae) is a species of bird in the family Columbidae. It is found in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, and Peru. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical high-altitude shrubland.
I assume the orange spot is there to catch the eye of their brethren? In that case, is there a sexual dimophism? Or is it to repel predators by making their eye look bigger?
There isn't much more info about them than what I've written already sadly, but from what I can see from other photos, there's no sexual dimorphism in these birds, which might mean it is to repel predators
Ok thanks for taking the time to investigate! The orange part does make him look a bit aggressive. So note to self, I'm not copying that look to steal a pigeon's heart.
