I would have been the friend who fetches him his beloved coffee but also mocks him at every occasion I get.

I think it would be darkly humorous if he was screaming “help, I’m drowning...” and his servants heard and went to make coffee then came out to find him ACTUALLY drowned in a pond or the tub or something.
