Oh no. Don’t you “America” on this one. I wear my mask- but I make it a point to not go out unless necessary and avoid crowds. This is a very particular subset of America. Generally a subset without credentials or degrees in the subject matter who also know more than the people who have them somehow. Many people I know refuse to even meet other people at the door right now. A lot of us are being careful. We are the ones you won’t see on the news generally- unless the headline reads something like “person does of Corona virus after months of being careful because neighbor went to a concert without a mask and then sneezed on them while getting the mail...”
@famousone tagging here because I don't want to interrupt your conversation with the other people. I'm curious - have you seen that interview with the nurse from Elmhurst hospital, and if so what are your thoughts on it?
Famousone admits to not seeing a YouTube documentary and somehow this offends more than one person. Y'all got serious issues and should probably lay off the Viagra before that hate-boner kills you
Masks were never mandatory in my country (NZ). However, we did have a strict (and possibly illegal, jury's still out on that one) lockdown. That's how we beat the 'rona so fast
While certainly there is some vocal group in America not using masks, isn't this more Sweden which did not lock down and is now seen as a pariah in the EU?
Once again, who is the rest of the world and why should I care what they think?

The scientists and governments of effectively every country, and because if everyone agrees such a tiny measure could significantly cut down the spread of the virus, the chances they're all wrong is pretty slim and the chances it could help is large. (Not trying to be salty or rude btw, but since you asked, just adding to conversation. Hope you're doing well @famousone)
They are wrong. Myself and other medics and medical personnel see it with our own eyes. People are essentially strapping viral/bacterial incubators to their faces and expecting to be okay. On top of that, the vast majority currently getting tested are already symptomatic, and that was mandated after the powers that be saw that the vast majority of cases were asymptomatic or minor.
We know this is wrong, it's one of the first lessons on PPE and testing methodology we learned before even being allowed into a clinic or hospital.
Viruses do not care about peer pressure or mass appeal.
Even in the States, birthday celebrations are being shut down for having more than 10 people in attendance, but nobody's saying much about the crowds of thousands burning cities down.
They don't care about the virus, they just can't be wrong or relinquish control.

So then, asking as someone w/o medical experience, why have so many governments/health organizations/schools endorsed them? I can't imagine they would all reach the same wrong conclusion...
Also, as far as I've seen, there's been plenty of criticism of the large crowds in recent protests. A lot of people have said not to go out, and I know plenty of people didn't protest in person specifically to avoid perpetuating the virus. I feel like "nobody's saying much" is just incorrect, honestly.
In actuality masks would be good, if only everyone had the proper materials, cleaning methodology, and the discipline and training to make it so.
It's disgusting. Using what is technically true but practically infeasible just to avoid admitting being wrong, fessing up to wrongdoing, or God forbid, relinquishing power over people.
Remember, the people telling you to mask up are the same ones who gave up entire city blocks to anarchists, take no issue with thousands of rioters in close contact, who will defund a police department and then turn around to spend tax dollars on private security for themselves. They are not trustworthy, they are not on your side or mine.
the proper procedure for maintaining the mask is one, Knowing how a mask that's not maintained can risk me more than not wearing one is a second. plus i wanna read up on it more so i don't just have a single source of info.
