The secret sauce is that when you realize- a great majority of people who make arguments on abstract appeals of broad morality or principal- aren’t ACTUALLY concerned with the principal- it’s merely a justification to self or others as to why the thing they want or serves them best should be the thing other people do. So when most people say “the us should stay out of other countries business...” they are generally either saying: “....unless I support whatever it is we are meddling in.” Or: “.... when it doesn’t profit me or forward my world view...”
