I'm guessing the "hateful views" thing is related to her saying biological women are a valid gender and have a right to be recognized for what they've gone through throughout history, apart from transgenders?
.
Maybe it's the whole "I refuse to fire johnny depp just because his abuser has a vagina and lots of people want to fuck her. And by "people" I'm not just talking about the magazine (though they certainly do also)."
.
Idk, these cancel culture people turn on their own so fast I'd have a constant whiplash trying to keep up with their "logic" if I tried
See, the inconsistencies among those who are calling for people to be cancelled made a whole lot more sense after I watched a Jordan Peterson lecture explaining that post-modernists LITERALLY don't believe in logic
Or free speech
Cancel culture is essentially when a person (or a group of people) decide they don't like someone or something (ie: brand). They then will pick apart things that person has said or done (or outright fabricate them) and use those as excuses to get the person fired, removed from an industry, or stop them working in the industry altogether. Often anytime the person attempts to re-surface they will continue to attack them.
.
Writers at companies like Marvel have become rather infamous for threatening to cancel anyone who ever voted for Trump, for example.
.
Cancel culture will often use tactics such as threats, labelling people "ists" and "phobes" (ie: racist, sexist, transphobe, Nazi, etc). In some cases people will fabricate or hyperbolize perceived crimes the person has committed. The most horrifying among these that have really taken off in the last year is rape and pedophilia claims.
.
Cancel culture often isolates the person being attacked, and has led to people commiting suicide.
Lucas Gerhard is an example of cancel culture that lead to a student being charged with terrorism. He's still under house arrest.
.
Johnny Depp and amber Heard - in which he lost nearly everything over accusations that have been proven 99% false.
.
MasterCard and Dick van dyke is another example
.
Zoe Quinn and Alex Holloway - ended in his suicide
.
A lesser example I posted awhile ago: someone trying to get Mike Rowe fired from narrating a show because she had decided he was anti-education (he's not)
.
Anita Sarkeesian and any male who doesn't agree with her
But tbh one of the most extreme cases of cancel culture I've ever seen is Vic Mignogna.
.
I honestly think more people should look into it, BUT I also know it's a huge rats nest that most people don't have the time or stomach for.
.
Only warning: to people who are actually curious, if you're at all a fan of English anime, by the end of looking into this, you likely won't be
Dubbed anime is trash anyways. 90% sounds like they are reading their lines off a card like a high schoolers first public reading. Just make everyone subbed only and be done with it.
Eh. Some of the actors aren't bad. Many of them aren't GOOD, but that's not a mystery after looking into it. It's all a very incestuous, clique-y little world, and they actively work to keep out any people who don't fit their idea of acceptable.
.
Vic is one of the few actually decent voice talents out there for English anime. Which is part of why they cancelled him
[This next bit isn't really @ catfluff specifically, just an add-on]
.
Forgot to mention Peter Simeti. Comic book artist. If I'm remembering the details right: he made the mistake of saying thank to you to the wrong people (I think ComicsGaters or something similar).
.
Other people saw that he'd thanked someone they don't like. And they absolutely did everything in their power to destroy him, including attempting to have him killed via police swatting.
.
And people can argue whether that's attempted murder or not.. You know there's a decent chance the person you swat could end up dead.
.
Anyway, whoever called the police posed as Simeti and said he had just killed his girlfriend and was about to kill himself.
.
To make it even more fun people accused him of lying about being swatted. He finally was able to upload video footage because it happened during a live-stream
These people target peoples' children, as well. Talking about the bus routes the kids take home from school.
.
Some of them weaponize Child protective services - making up abuse allegations.
.
Some imply the person they don't like is raping their own children.
.
I've seen voice actresses ask if people have contacted the employer of a man who worked with victims of child abuse. Why? To try and have him removed from his job, all because he called her out on trying to cancel someone. Think about that for a moment. Someone says "what you're doing is wrong" and your reaction is to try and remove a resource that helps child victims of rape and abuse deal with their trauma.
So if anyone ever wonders why I get somewhat intense/worked-up about/keep harping on this shit... especially about companies like Marvel, DC, and Funimation.. You now have the very vaguest glimpse into why
.
And sadly this is all barely scratching the surface
Will unfortunately it's the big brother society we've built. Too long, people in power were able to silence those below them, no matter how bad they acted. Now once the way was shown to break that power, people abuse that. Cancel culture, metoo, though may have good intentions, also had collateral damage of innocent's getting their lives ruined.
The funny thing is a lot of creators have managed to go independant - and actually have blown companies like Marvel out of the water in terms of success. But then companies like MasterCard decide to take part in cancel culture and suddenly you have no options
