Disney has been in the re-education game for almost 100 years

Personally, I think this, and many things involving Disney are just plain gross- horrific even. That said- I do find it funny that so many people keep saying that things like “The Gillette ad” shouldn’t happen- that corporations should stay out of politics and social issues and what not, and just focus on what they do for business. Now, Disney didn’t actively participate in the interment system. Their special thanks and their money likely will give some aid there though- but which is it? Are corporations to be bastions of morality, taking stands and refusing to be even tangentially involved in wrong; not standing by and even condoning wrong by being silent or idle... or are they supposed to focus on their product and business, follow the laws, and not get their money and power involved in shaping the world beyond being good at their craft?

We can say “this is different! This is a humanitarian crisis of serious proportions!” But... how do we draw lines and define what is or isn’t a humanitarian crisis? How do Americans or many other countries throw stones at China when our own governments detain people who have done nothing wrong but represent some supposed ideological threat to our country?

Git-mo and the like are ok- even when innocent people, or people only suspected of wrong are held their- often without benefit of due process to show this innocence; detaining refugees and “illegals” is ok when the conditions aren’t necessarily intentionally horrifying, just coincidentally and occasionally; building walls to be able to say WE didn’t let people die or suffer, we just left them to their fate- that’s ok. But “re education” is not. I’m not saying it is ok- but none of it is ok. None of it.

If you’re going to condemn Disney for shooting this way- you’d have to condemn basically any place on the planet they shoot just about no? But Disney is huge. They’ll likely still be huge. They’d likely still be huge if they started flying the Chinese flag at their parks and saying communism is the future. We need to look at ourselves under the harsh magnifying glass because we keep giving them money, and probably still would.

Thank you for the insight and analysis! It seems, however, that the nuance you brought wasn't much appreciated... Most people seem to be comforted by snapshots and soundbites. A one dimensional world makes it easier to be on the "right" side i guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's lazy nostalgia bait, just like every other remake Disney's made.

i never saw the first one, i liked the addition of the rabbit's tale in the beginning also. If you're going into watch a movie with preconceptions on how you think it should be, then why bother watching in the first place? What's wrong with just watching for entertainment?
